Four stolen vehicles have been recovered and a youth is in custody after multiple reports to the Annapolis District RCMP and Lunenburg District RCMP.

On June 7, Annapolis District RCMP received information that a 17-year-old youth was driving a GMC Sierra in their area that had been stolen from New Brunswick several days before.

During their patrols, officers observed a truck matching the description and a silver car leaving a residence on Hwy. 10 in New Germany. The officers attempted to stop both vehicles but both fled at a high rate of speed.

Officers successfully deployed a spike belt on Hwy. 10 to stop the car, which was later located abandoned. Nearby witnesses reported seeing a man and a woman running from the vehicle. RCMP Police Dog Services attended and a 21-year-oldwoman from Halifax was arrested. The other suspect was not located.

The silver car was determined to be a Volkswagen Jetta that had been stolen from Chester.

A short time later, the Sierra was located abandoned and confirmed to be the stolen truck from New Brunswick.

Later that same day, Annapolis District RCMP received another report of a stolen Chevy Silverado from Pleasant St. in Middleton.

Lunenburg County RCMP located the Silverado in Cookville and followed it to Hwy. 103, where officers attempted to stop it near Exit 9. The truck sped away and out of concern for public safety, officers did not pursue.

The Silverado was located a short time later, and witnesses told officers that a lone driver had ran away. RCMP Police Dog Services attended and began tracking.

Lunenburg County RCMP then received a report of a Ford Econoline van having just been stolen. The description of the suspect matched the driver of the Silverado.

The stolen van was located and followed to the 2500 block of Hwy. 10 and a spike belt was successfully deployed. The suspect, a 17-year-old youth from Wilmot, ran to the nearby treeline but surrendered to officers when RCMP Police Dog Services arrived.

As a result, the youth was remanded into custody, pending a hearing in Annapolis Royal Provincial Court on June 24 at 9:30.

The youth is currently facing the following charges:

• Dangerous Operation (2 counts)
• Flight from Peace Officer (2 counts)
• Theft of Motor Vehicle (2 counts)
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (3 counts)
• Failure to Comply with Release Order (8 counts)
• Failure to Comply with Sentence or Disposition under the Youth Criminal Justice Act
• Failure to Comply with Undertaking

The 21-year-old woman from Halifax was released on conditions and is due to appear in Annapolis Royal Provincial Court on August 12 at 9:30 for the following charges:

• Flight from Peace Officer
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
• Possession of a Controlled Substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

The investigation is continuing and additional charges and arrests are expected.
