RCMP seize hundreds of thousands in assets and lay close to 20 charges

August 2, 2012, Halifax, Nova Scotia... RCMP have laid close to 20 charges following an investigation into the financial activities of two individuals. This is in relation to a drug investigation from last Fall.

 
 
In October 2011, RCMP arrested and charged nine individuals following a large-scale drug investigation that resulted in the seizure of large quantities of marihuana, cocaine, hash, cannabis resin, approximately $185,000 in cash and 9 vehicles.
 
Following the arrests, the RCMP Integrated Proceeds of Crime (IPOC) unit launched a nine-month investigation into the financial activities of Sean Decker, age 41, Halifax and Jacqueline Christine Garnett, age 33, Halifax.  Decker was one of the nine charged in October.
 
This morning, the RCMP charged Decker with 11 counts of Possession of Proceeds of Crime and one count of Money Laundering. Garnett is charged with seven counts of Possession of Proceeds of Crime, one count of Money Laundering.
 
During the financial investigation, the RCMP IPOC unit uncovered various assets related to Sean Decker and Jacqueline Garnett believed to have been purchased with the proceeds of crime.  In February 2012, several assets were seized and restrained pursuant to Criminal Code Special Search Warrants and Restraint Orders. These assets include:
 
Condominium - Springvale Avenue, Halifax;
Stock market account (valued at $50,000);
2004 Acura TSX;
2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle;
Fourteen karat white gold diamond ring;
Men's Brietling watch;
Trek Madone road bicycle.
 
In addition to these assets, $178,950 in Canadian currency and $12,765 in American currency were seized in the drug and IPOC investigations. The total value of all assets seized related to Sean Decker is approximately $750,000.
 
It is also alleged Sean Decker and Jacqueline Garnett committed money laundering offences between 2003 and 2011. 
 
Sean Decker and Jacqueline Garnett will appear in Halifax Provincial Court on August 2nd, 2012.
