How you begin your day usually sets the tone for the rest of the day. If you start out on a good path research suggests that you are more likely to stick to it for the rest of the day. Not to mention getting through the work day can be difficult enough you don’t need to feel like crap while you’re doing it. Drinking hot water and lemon first thing in the morning will cleanse your body while also providing you with renewed energy to tackle what life throws at you.
You’ve heard that hot water and lemon helps improve your metabolism, but I’ve compiled a list of other benefits to help sway you into subbing in that morning cup of joe.
High in vitamin C and potassium, vitamin C is great for fighting infections, while potassium stimulates brain & nerve function and also helps control blood pressure. I love drinking hot water, lemon, and honey when I’ll feeling sick, or I’m feeling something brewing.

Sometimes we need a little help getting things moving, after eating nachos and pizza last night for “dinner” you might be feeling a bit sluggish. Drinking hot water with lemon in the morning can’t undo what you did last night, but it can help move things along, so you both can move on.
Lemons (like many citrus fruits) are high in vitamin C, and while it helps fight off a cold, vitamin C helps decrease wrinkles and blemishes. Lemon water purges toxins from the blood which helps keep skin clear as well. We are what we eat my lovelies.
Because lemons increase the rate of urination, they act like a little bull dozer for pushing out all the toxins from your body which means helping to ensure a healthy urinary tract.
Hydrates the Lymph System and Helps Liver Functions
Drinking hot water with lemon helps keep your body hydrated (opposite to coffee), keeping your body hydrated is very important because without water your body cannot perform the way it needs to which can lead to toxic build up, constipation, stress and many more. Your adrenals also secrete important hormones, including aldosterone. Aldosterone is a hormone secreted by your adrenals that regulates water levels and the concentration of minerals, like sodium, in your body, helping you stay hydrated. Your organs need water to work, and when they don’t have it they will find it from other organs in the body. Ever get a headache after a night out drinking? That’s because your liver needs water to process the alcohol, and when it doesn’t have it will go where ever it needs to go to get it (your brain). Scary stuff right?
Lemons can actually help fight hunger cravings because they are high in pectin fiber. Research also shows that people who eat a more alkaline diet lose weight faster than those who do not. Also when you are cleansing your body and “de-junking” it you are pushing out excess toxins and waste in your body that can be wreaking havoc on your organs making everything move and process slower (bad news bears). Trust me you do not want that quarter double cheeseburger hanging out in your intestines longer than it needs to, or its toxins in your body that contribute specifically to stomach fat. Yep those exist people!
So what’s your recipe for success in the morning?
This is probably one of the easiest things you can do for your body. Simply combining a cup of warm water with the juice from half a lemon first thing in the morning! You can do this J
So I don’t live in a false reality I know some habits are difficult to break, and so if you NEED your coffee in the morning just have it after you hydrate your body, or try green tea it’s a much better way to get a caffeine fix, but it also has a lot of other great qualities as well. In a study people who switched out their morning coffee for green tea lost more weight than those who drank coffee (could be the milk and sugar aspect).
Also I want to point out that if you don’t initially feel the amazing buzz from cleaning do not get discouraged. Depending on how much junk you need to purge you could feel worse before you feel better. But know that what you are doing for your body is good, and the feeling like crap will pass, and the more you eat cleaner the more feeling like crap after eating a cheeseburger will deter you from wanting it, you’ll be more in tune with your body, and how it feels when you put good things in it J
People ask me all the time why I don’t eat this or why I don’t eat that, and I simply say it’s because I feel like sh*t after eating it, so what’s the point? I’d rather eat something that I know I’ll feel good after eating, and know that I’m not sabotaging all my hard work. That being said I do love a good slice of pizza J yin and yang right?
