HRP release:
On April 25 from 1:30 a.m. to 3:30 a.m., Halifax Regional Police officers conducted a proactive check point on the Dartmouth side of the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge. Over 1000 vehicles were stopped, including:
- one driver who was arrested and charged for impaired operation of a conveyance. An arrest occurs when a driver’s blood alcohol concentration is over 80 mg%
- six drivers who were issued seven-day suspensions for having a blood alcohol concentration between 50 mg% and 79 mg%
- one driver who was issued a one-day suspension
Officers also issued 21 summary offence tickets for various Motor Vehicle Act offences.
Impaired driving is a serious offence that puts lives in danger. If you see a potential impaired driver, call 911 immediately and give the call taker your location along with a description of the vehicle, including the licence plate number, colour, make and model, the direction of travel for the vehicle and a description of the driver.
