Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – Whether you’re a long-time resident or a newcomer to the Halifax region, everyone is welcome at the 10th Annual Welcome BBQ this Saturday, Aug. 8, on the Halifax South Common.
Come celebrate our diverse communities and welcome those who are new to the area. Last year’s event brought hundreds of people together to eat, laugh and enjoy some cultural music and entertainment.
This year promises to be another great afternoon of family fun, with plenty of food, culture and activities for the kids.
The fun gets underway at 11 a.m. and will continue until about 2 p.m. There will be live entertainment from a variety of artists, including Halifax’s famous traditional Korean Drum Band with DK Shin, Drummer Glenn and the Mas Cencerro Collective, gospel singers, McEdward Jones and the Crew, and the talented Halifax multicultural drummers with Olugu Ukpai.
Other activities will include an energetic Zumba dance with Florence Simmons, a visit from Monique Ryan of Serpentine Studios, creative face painting, arts and crafts with the Art Bikers, and much more. We hope to see you there!
The Welcome BBQ is planned and delivered each year by a committee representing many organizations that serve newcomers in our region with the goal to create an intercultural gathering for all. Additional resources and information for newcomers is available on the municipal government website at http://www.halifax.ca/newcomers/.
