Lifesaving Society would like to remind Nova Scotians of the importance of water safety

With the long weekend approaching, the Lifesaving Society would like to remind Nova Scotians of the importance of water safety. Wearing properly fitted personal floatation devices (PFD’s) when boating can reduce the risk of injury, in the event you end up in the water. It is important to be aware of currents and water temperature when boating and swimming in open water. If you are planning on swimming, wearing a wetsuit can reduce the risk of hypothermia. Refrain from drinking alcoholic beverages while participating in aquatic activities, as it can increase the risk of water related injuries and accidents. “Unfortunately, on many long weekends, we seem to have tragedies. Be water smart this weekend” says Paul D’Eon, Director, Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service.
About the Lifesaving Society:
The Lifesaving Society, Canada’s lifeguarding experts, is a non-profit organization working to prevent drowning and water-related injury through training programs and Water Smart public education.
