17-Year-Old Facing Charges After Flipping Vehicle

Release:

On February 20 at 8:35 a.m., the RCMP’s Northeast Traffic Services responded to a call indicating a red Chevy Cobalt had flipped over on Hwy. 125, westbound at Exit 6. When police arrived on the scene, they found the two occupants of the vehicle had escaped without serious injury. They had both been wearing seatbelts.

Police obtained information that the driver of the Cobalt, a 17-year-old male from Albert Bridge, had been racing with another vehicle that left the scene after the collision occurred. During the collision, a wheel came off the Cobalt, and the tire and rim became separated. The rim lodged under another vehicle and caused extensive damage to its undercarriage. Police were assisted at the scene by Cape Breton Regional Police and Sydney River Volunteer Fire Department. Highway 125 was reduced to one lane for a short period of time while emergency responders were on scene.
