2017-18 Annual Report Available


Nova Scotia Business Inc. (NSBI) released its 16th annual report today, July 26, covering the fiscal period from April 1, 2017, to March 31, 2018.

“In 2017-18, NSBI built on valuable insight from our clients to ensure that our suite of offerings responded to their needs,” said Laurel Broten, NSBI president and CEO. “We worked to provide impactful programs and services when and where they needed them. We are Nova Scotians working for positive outcomes for Nova Scotians.”

The 2017-18 annual report measures goals against NSBI’s 2017-18 business plan and includes financial statements audited by an independent third party in accordance with Canadian auditing standards.

Looking back, 2017-18:
— 24 NSBI clients became new exporters. Ten were from the oceans, information communications technology and seafood and agri-food sectors
— client-reported export sales saw a 12.7 per cent increase across all sectors, and in the high-potential clusters of oceans, information communications technology, and seafood and agri-food, this number increased by 12.7 per cent
— small-business clients reported a 14.8 per cent increase in payroll, and growth was highest among clients with annual payroll under $1 million, with these clients reporting a 19.6 per cent increase in their payroll over the previous year
— there was an increase in activity in the Productivity and Innovation Vouchers with 74 approved vouchers in client hands
