(Updated) Police respond to drowning at Kidston Lake

Shortly after 1130pm, the body of the victim was located by the RCMP dive team.​

The victim is a 15-year-old boy -​ not 14 as previously released -​ and his identity is not being released at this time as per his family’s wishes.

The victim was swimming with friends when he went underwater shortly before 7pm. Despite their repeated​ efforts to save him; they were unable to keep the victim above water. Several bystanders and police officers entered the water and attempted to locate the victim,​ unsuccessfully.

At 6:57 pm, police and Halifax Fire and Emergencies responded to Kidston Lake for a report that a youth was having trouble swimming, had gone underwater and could not be located.

A joint response was quickly conducted by officers and firefighters but unfortunately, they were unable to find the youth. It is believed that the youth drowned in the incident.

Halifax Regional Police with the assistance of the RCMP dive team are currently on scene at Kidston Lake and attempt are being made to locate the youth.

The identity of the 14-year-old boy is not being released at this time.
