71-year-old man dies after crash

Cumberland County District RCMP is investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Mapleton.

On April 22, at approximately 1:49 p.m., Cumberland County District RCMP, fire and EHS, responded to a report of a vehicle crash on Hwy. 2. Upon arrival at the scene, RCMP officers learned that a beige Toyota Tacoma was travelling on the highway when it left the roadway, hit a power pole and came to rest overturned in the ditch.

The driver and sole occupant of the Toyota, a 71-year-old Southampton man, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A collision reconstructionist attended the scene. The investigation remains ongoing and is being assisted by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service.

Our thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones at this difficult time.
