Thursday, Mar. 19, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – Halifax Transit is advising residents that it will provide free bus and ferry services beginning today through the end of the service day Sunday, Mar. 22, to assist residents that need to get around the city over the next few days.
Halifax Transit ferries on both the Alderney and Woodside routes today resumed regular service for residents. Visit www.halifax.ca/transit/schedules/index.php for detailed weekday and weekend ferry schedules.
Access-A-Bus service remains suspended for today, and will resume service tomorrow, Mar. 20, along with the regular fixed-route conventional bus service.
Limited bus service will be provided this afternoon and evening from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on routes along major corridors in the city as follows:
1 Spring Garden – 4 buses
2 Wedgwood – 2 buses
4 Rosedale – 2 buses
7 Robie – 2 buses
9 Barrington – 1 bus
10 Dalhousie – 2 buses
14 Leiblin Park – 1 bus
18 Universities – 1 bus
20 Herring Cove – 2 buses
21 Lakeside/Timberlea – 1 bus
22 Armdale – 1 bus
52 Crosstown – 4 buses
53 Notting Park – 1 bus
59 Colby – 1 bus
60 Eastern Passage – 2 buses
61 Auburn/North Preston – 2 buses
62 Wildwood – 1 bus
66 Penhorn – 2 buses
68 Cherrybrook – 1 bus
80 Sackville – 4 buses

Please note that as buses are not able to operate on the posted schedules today, GoTime is not in operation.
Today’s bus service is limited as Halifax Transit only has access to 40 per cent of its fleet due to an issue with snow load on the roof of the Burnside Transit Centre. The heavy snow load on the roof caused the municipality to close the building yesterday as a precautionary measure until the snow can be removed and the building is deemed safe for Halifax Transit employees. The Burnside Transit Centre is the location of approximately 60 per cent of Halifax Transit’s fleet of buses, with 60-70 of those vehicles stored inside the building, as well as Access-A-Bus dispatch and scheduling office. As a result, Halifax Transit is unable to deliver a scheduled, fixed route bus service or Access-A-Bus service until access to the Burnside dispatch centre and buses is re-established.
Halifax Transit and the municipality understand that the limited bus and suspended Access-A-Bus services may be an inconvenience to some residents; however, the safety of passengers and Halifax Transit employees must be our top priority.
