Friday, March 20, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – Please be advised that the municipal overnight parking ban will continue to be enforced from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. on Saturday, March 21, to allow crews to continue with the cleanup across the region.
In addition to the overnight parking ban, the municipality has also taken the extraordinary step to fully enforce Section 139 of the provincial Motor Vehicle Act, which prevents on-street parking any time, day or night, when snow clearing is underway.
Officers with Halifax Regional Police and RCMP are continuing to work with clearing crews and doing proactive patrols to help prevent people from parking on the street. Until further notice, officers will ticket and tow any vehicles that are already on the streets hampering snow removal.
The overnight winter parking ban is in effect from now until March 31. It will be enforced only during declared snow and ice events and snow removal operations.
The easiest way to be prepared when snow is coming is to sign up for CityWatch notifications of parking bans. Fill out a registration form, call 311 or email contact@halifax.ca. Subscribers will receive timely alerts by phone, email, and/or text message when the ban is in effect and again when it is lifted. Residents who received these notifications last winter will continue to receive the service this year. Standard text messaging rates apply.
