RCMP vehicle stop leads to drug seizure, Amherst, N.S.

The RCMP Amherst Traffic Services Unit seized marijuana after stopping a vehicle for speeding. During the evening of March 23rd, RCMP conducted a traffic stop on a 2014 Hyundai Accent that was travelling at 146km/h westbound on Highway 104.

During the evening of March 23rd, RCMP conducted a traffic stop on a 2014 Hyundai Accent that was travelling at 146km/h westbound on Highway 104.

Preliminary investigation determined the 22-year-old driver from Charlottetown did not have a valid driver’s license and was operating a rental vehicle he was not authorized to drive. A search of the vehicle led to the seizure of marijuana and other paraphernalia. The driver was arrested without incident and his vehicle was seized.

The driver will be facing charges of Possession of Marijuana for the Purpose of Trafficking and numerous Motor Vehicle Act charges including Speeding, Operating a Motor Vehicle without Valid Insurance and Driving while Suspended. The man was released from custody and will appear in Amherst Provincial Court on June 1st, 2015.
