Friday, May 15, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – Signs of spring are popping up all around us, just in time for the Halifax Regional Municipality’s annual greenhouse open house!

With warmer weather upon us, many people are starting to think about gardening. Residents are encouraged to visit our horticulture experts between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, at the municipal greenhouse on Caledonia Road, next to Beazley Field in Dartmouth.

The municipality cultivates most of the plants and flowers for its more than 400 parks and open spaces at its own greenhouses in Dartmouth and on Sackville Street in Halifax. Horticulture employees work throughout the spring to complete a large-scale planting program of annuals and do regular horticulture maintenance throughout the summer and fall to ensure the municipal parks and open spaces, including the popular Public Gardens, are vibrant and welcoming for all to enjoy.

At the open house residents will be able to explore the greenhouse, check out the educational displays and ask municipal gardeners for their best gardening tips. There will also be community urban gardeners on hand, representatives from the Nova Scotia Beekeepers Association, and much more!
