With warm temperatures expected across the province this week, the RCMP would like to remind Nova Scotians not to leave their pets unattended in their vehicles.

It can take only minutes for a vehicle to reach over 35 degrees, which can be deadly.

Rolling down a window or parking in the shade doesn’t guarantee protection either, since temperatures can still climb into harmful zones. The temperature can put your pet at risk and this could result in serious injury or death.

If you see a pet unattended in a vehicle on a hot day, take down the license plate number, colour, make and model of the vehicle and call police. If you are with someone, have them keep an eye on the animal while you try to get help.
