As you know blog reader I’ve been all over the place lately; it’s been a little crazy (in the most amazing way) I don’t think I’ve slept in my own bed for more than two weeks since April.
Don’t you just love summer?
Because I’ve been out and about I haven’t have much time to prepare new recipes. Instead of a recipe post for today I’ve put together some of my tried and true favorites that I’ve been meaning to share with you for quite some time. From food to products these are some great products that are not only handy or delicious they are good for you too!
You know when you use something so much that it no longer becomes new to you? These items are kind of like that for me. Recently when I was drinking my dehydrated lemon in my water one of coworkers was over the moon about it so I knew I had to share it.
From my favorite salad spinner (that doubles for berries and grapes) to my fruit and veggie cleaner to my favorite soda replacement here are a few of my favorite things.
Salad spinners are so amazing, and not just for lettuce, spinach, herbs, but it’s also great for berries, and grapes. This salad spinner from Trudeauhttps://www.trudeaucorp.com/ca-en/products/kitchen-tools-gadgets/types/kitchen-gadgets/p–09912074.html (see more about it here) is pretty cool because it has a couple different setting so you it’ll spin more gently for things like berries, grapes, and herbs than say romaine lettuce. I love it, and honestly I don’t know what I did before.
Ask anyone, and you’ll know that I never leave the house without a protein bar. Perfect in a pinch protein bars (the ones low in sugar) are a great snack to hold you over if you know you can’t really eat for a while. Honestly this is one my best suggestions for staying on track in terms of your weight.
I never eat muffin, donuts, or fast food when I’m stuck out and about working or traveling. I want to make sure I’m not forced to eat something crappy because I’m STARVING and didn’t plan well.
These little protein bars (you can buy them in a box at Cost Co) contain 16 grams of protein and only 3 grams of sugar, so don’t expect them to overly sweet because they’re not, and that’s the point. You don’t need all that sugar!
I like to enjoy these with a cup of tea or coffee, not only are you saving your arteries from glorified cake (honestly you might as well eat the donuts instead of the muffin it’s probably lower in fat and sugar), but you’ll save money too because these guys will keep you full for 3 hours whereas that muffin won’t take you past the hour. Swap these for your morning muffin and you won’t be sorry.
It’s summer, and the BBQ’s are burning up the burgers, so is it any wonder that every now and then you want to grab a cold one? A regular can of soda has about 6 tablespoons of sugar, and we all know how bad sugar is for your health (I mean it truly is one of the worst things you can eat), so having a replacement would be amazing right?
Let me present to you Zevia! Zevia is a zero calorie soda that is sweetened with Stevia rather than sugar, and it really does taste great. I’ve tried almost all flavors, and they are all great. I love the root beer, and the ginger ale the best. You can find Zevia in the organic section of the grocery store.
You can also use these sodas to mix drinks too! I like mixing the gingerale with gin from time to time. Since alcohol contains sugar and calories already this soda is a great option to keep you on track.
If you’re mixing your soda with alcohol please drink responsibly.
I love pizza, I pretty much could eat it almost ever single day. However, with cheese, bread, and meat at the forefront of pizza ingredients it’s not exactly good for you (especially if you’re eating the frozen variety which contains high amounts of nitrates and sugar).
Instead of tossing a frozen pizza in the oven when I get home from work and I’m exhausted I use these brown rice tortillas to make a basil pesto chicken pizza. I saute chicken, and make a pesto from basil, olive oil, and some spice, and add cheese (you could use Daiya cheese if you can’t have cheese), fresh tomato slices and a splash of hot sauce.
I pretty much eat this every weekend 🙂 and I think it’s a great treat!
If you struggle to drink enough water in the run of the day this product is for you! True Lemon is a powder form of lemon that contains no sugar or artificial ingredients. I toss one of these in with my water bottle, and it instantly adds a little flavor to my water, and bonus you don’t need to worry about aspartame.
Sometimes I use True Lemon to make iced tea! I’ll brew some tea, let it cool, pour over ice, and add True Lemon with a stevia packet, and voila! Iced Tea! Love this product.
