Barb Allen jokes that when she first got involved with a group in the early 1990s to bring more recreational facilities to the community, her two kids were just youngsters.
Now that the new Prospect Road Community Centre is almost set to open, they would be eligible for adult programs.
“My kids won’t be taking any of the preschool classes, that’s for sure,” she said, laughing.
While it has been somewhat of a long and winding road, she said it has been well worth the effort.
“It’s something that’s been anticipated with great eagerness by the community,” said Allen, chairwoman of the Prospect Road and Area Community Centre steering committee.
The new $8.5-million recreation centre is set to open June 19. Last week, organizers held a one-day registration session for summer programs at an area school, an effort that continues by phone.
