The province is helping student loan borrowers whose ability to repay may be impacted by the fires in Fort McMurray.

Eligible Nova Scotia borrowers will not have to make payments on their provincial student loans for six months.

“Our thoughts are with everyone in Alberta,” said Labour and Advanced Education Minister Kelly Regan. “Nova Scotians affected by the fires in Fort McMurray shouldn’t have to worry about paying their provincial student loans while they cope with this upheaval.”

Nova Scotia student loan borrowers who live in Fort McMurray are eligible. Those with Fort McMurray addresses already on file will automatically have their loan payments suspended.

Nova Scotia borrowers who are affected but unsure whether they are eligible can contact Nova Scotia Student Assistance at 1-800-565-8420.
