Trade Centre Limited (TCL) today, May 24, announced that Scott Ferguson, president and CEO is leaving to take on a new opportunity as CEO of the World Trade Centers Association in New York.

“While we are disappointed to see Scott go, we have been very fortunate to have such a strong leader with a clear vision,” said Justin McDonough, chair, TCL Board of Directors. “Scott had a deliberate strategy for growth, and under his guidance we have solidified a strong future for the new convention centre and the event industry in Nova Scotia.”

Mr. Ferguson joined TCL in 1985 taking on increasingly senior roles before becoming president and CEO in 2009. Under his leadership, TCL has undergone significant growth and transformation, including the renovations of the newly named Scotiabank Centre under a multi-year $7.5 million partnership. He also oversaw reaching the sales targets for the new Halifax Convention Centre, international recognition for the marketing of the new centre and the operational preparations currently underway to open the facility.

“Success in the events business comes from developing and executing big ideas while maintaining a strong reputation for customer service excellence,” said Mr. Ferguson. “I’m proud of the team at TCL who continue to innovate and execute to a high standard. It’s a team that delivers results and will ensure our facilities continue to generate benefit for the city and province.”

The TCL Board of Directors has appointed Carrie Cussons, currently the chief financial officer, as acting president and CEO.

“It is important to maintain experienced leadership and continuity during this time in the organization’s evolution,” said Mr. McDonough. “We have every confidence in Carrie, the management team, and their ability to ensure a successful transition to the new Halifax Convention Centre.”

Once appointed, the new board of directors of the Halifax Convention Centre Corporation will decide on a permanent CEO for the organization.
