New bus route raises concerns from local residents

Purcell’s Cove-Armdale councillor Linda Mosher says that she has recently received many calls and emails from residents concerned over the proposed route of Metro Transit’s 22 Stoneridge bus.

In a May letter to residents, Mosher said that these calls are “contrary to what we have heard over the last few years.” At the June 7 Chebucto Community Council meeting, Mosher showed a petition against the route 22, and a petition supporting the bus. Mosher said it was clear the bus is a “divisive issue” in the neighbourhood.

She has asked HRM staff to reexamine the issue and report back as quickly as possible, given that the service is scheduled to start in August.

According to a sign on Walter Havill drive, local resident Linda Bonin organized the petition. Some of the concerns on the petition include: that Walter Havill Drive is too narrow for buses, that buses will emit harmful fumes, and that vandalism and loitering will increase in the neighbourhood.
