Grand Opening Celebration on Wednesday, September 27th includes more than $10,000 in prizing and fun, family-friendly entertainment

KEA Halifax invites everyone to join in the excitement and experience Canada’s newest IKEA at the Grand Opening on Wednesday, September 27th. IKEA Halifax will welcome its first customers through the doors at 9:00 am following grand opening celebrations.

More than $10,000 in prizing will be given away and everyone in line will have a chance to win. Every 15 minutes from 6:00 am to 8:00 am, IKEA will draw for a chance to win a $1000 gift card. Additionally, the first 300 people in line will receive a $50 gift card. The following 700 people will receive a coupon for $50 off a purchase of $150.

Grand opening celebrations will begin at 8:20 am and will feature fun family entertainment and giveaways. Special guests include Halifax Mayor Mike Savage, as well as representatives from IKEA Canada.

“We have an exciting day planned and our co-workers are eager to welcome everyone to our new store,” said Sue Coulet, IKEA Halifax Store Manager. “The response from the community has been fantastic and we look forward to providing an inspirational shopping experience and fun day out for the family.”

Working at IKEA is inspiring, fun and fast-paced and career opportunities are endless. Half of the jobs at IKEA Halifax are full-time, part-time co-workers received guaranteed hours and all co-workers will receive benefits.

IKEA wants to have a positive impact on people and the planet and be a partner for positive change in the local community. IKEA is proud to support the Breakfast Club of Canada, through donations and volunteerism, to help provide school children with a daily breakfast, including schools near the new store. For every breakfast sold from September 27 to October 1, IKEA will donate one breakfast to Breakfast Club of Canada programs in the local community. Together, IKEA Halifax co-workers and local Tree Canada staff will help to keep the community green, including the planting of 107 trees and shrubs in Birch Cove Park earlier this year.

IKEA Halifax was constructed to be the most sustainable IKEA store in Canada and will also be the first LEED certified IKEA store in Canada. Some of the sustainability features include electric vehicle charging stations and preferred parking for hybrid and electric vehicles, free lightbulb and battery takeback services, rooftop solar panels and a geothermal energy system

IKEA Halifax will feature nearly 10,000 products, 50 inspirational room settings, 3 model home interiors, a SMALAND supervised children’s play area and a 475 seat restaurant serving the iconic Swedish meatballs and a wide variety of other dishes which include vegetarian and vegan options.

Inspirational room settings will reflect life at home in Atlantic Canada, all at affordable prices. The new store will also have great family friendly features such as a baby care room, play areas throughout the store, preferred parking and a Children’s IKEA department.
