New Board Chair Appointed to NSLC

George McLellan has been appointed as a member and chair of the board of directors of the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation (NSLC).“Mr. McLellan comes to this role with extensive corporate and board experience and a working knowledge of the organization from his former role as deputy minister of Finance and Treasury Board,” said Finance and Treasury Board Minister Karen Casey.”Mr. McLellan was born and educated in Sydney and holds a bachelor of arts degree, a master of business administration and is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Nova Scotia. He has held positions in the provincial and municipal governments, and in the private sector, including as chief administrative officer with Halifax Regional Municipality, and as deputy minister, Finance and Treasury Board. Prior to his retirement as deputy minister in May 2017, Mr. McLellan was a non-voting member of the NSLC’s board.Ms. Casey extended thanks to outgoing board chair Sherry Porter. “Ms. Porter served two terms with the NSLC board and has provided leadership through many changes and growth of the organization,” said Ms. Casey. “I thank her for her dedicated service over the past several years.”John MacKinnon of Sydney is also being reappointed to the NSLC board of directors. Mr. MacKinnon has served on the board since 2012. The standing committee on human resources approved the appointments today, Sept. 28, and they will be finalized shortly.The board of directors provides leadership and oversees the performance of the organization, which provides millions of dollars in revenue that supports important government services, such as health care and education.Both appointments are for five years.Source: Release
