Halifax District RCMP responded to a situation this morning that led to the discharge of firearms, resulting in the death of a man.
At approximately 7:48 a.m., RCMP members responded to a weapons complaint at a home in Westphal where a man was threatening to shoot another man.
As members responded, the man fled the home and entered a wooded area.
While police were attempting to locate him utilizing RCMP Police Dog Services, they were confronted by the man resulting in officers discharging their firearms.
The 24-year-old suspect was found to be deceased at the scene. No members were injured during the incident.
Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased at this difficult time.
The investigation is ongoing.
Halifax District RCMP have referred the matter the Nova Scotia Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT). The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) independently investigates all serious incidents which arise from the actions of police in Nova Scotia.
There does not have to be an allegation of wrongdoing
Given the matter is now being investigated by SiRT, the RCMP is unable to discuss further details about the shooting.
