Police Investigate Impaired Driver with Stolen Vehicle & Collision

At 3:30 a.m., 14 July, Halifax Regional Police responded to a report of single vehicle collision in the 7000 block of Quinpool Road Halifax, involving a white SUV travelling at a high rate speed that struck a utility pole.

Callers advised 911 dispatch that the driver fled on foot. Officers then confirmed the SUV stolen from Yarmouth earlier in the evening.

A police service dog was deployed to track the driver. At 3:48 a.m. officers located & arrested the driver hiding in a parking lot in the 7100 block of Quinpool Road. The male driver showed signs of impairment and was taken for Breath Test.

The SUV did damage a utility pole and wiring. Traffic inbound on Quinpool Road was blocked for just over an hour while Nova Scotia Power repaired the utility pole. Traffic is now re-opened.

The A 20 year old male from Yarmouth, is held for court on Monday and will be facing charges of Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle, Failing to Remain at the Scene of an Accident, and Refusal of a Breath Test.
