Just before 1 a.m. on Sunday, Colchester District RCMP observed a vehicle driving in a dangerous manner in Millbrook. Upon approaching the vehicle, the driver sped off on to the 102 Highway at Exit 13A, travelling northbound in the southbound lane.
The driver of the Honda Civic turned off it’s lights, driving in to oncoming traffic and narrowly missing other vehicles before turning off at Exit 13 in Truro Heights. The vehicle turned around and proceeded to drive southbound on Highway 102. The driver failed to stop for police and was travelling at speeds greater than 200 kms/hr and on occasion, was turning his lights off.
Given the safety risk to other motorists, RCMP deployed a spike belt near Stewiacke which resulted in the suspect vehicle losing one of it’s tires. However, the suspect vehicle continued to drive on it’s rim and turned off at Exit 10 in Shubenacadie where the driver attempted to turn around. At this time, the male was approached by members, resisted arrest and was taken in to custody.
A 41-year-old man of New Brunswick is in police custody and will appear in Truro Provincial Court on July 16 to answer to the following charges:
- Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle
- Operation of a Motor Vehicle While being Pursued by Police
- Resist Arrest
Colchester District RCMP officers were assisted by Millbrook RCMP, Enfield RCMP and RCMP Police Dog Services during this incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
