On August 27 at 10:30 p.m., Digby RCMP responded to a call of a fishing vessel that had gone aground on the rocks near Tiverton, on Long Island.

A ferry assisted the fishing boat to the dock. When police arrived at the scene, they noted signs that the captain’s ability to operate the vessel was impaired by alcohol. He was transported back to Digby Detachment were he provided breath samples. His readings were nearly two times the legal limit.

The captain, a 48-year-old man from Granville Ferry, is facing charges of Impaired Operation of a Vessel, and Operating a Vessel with a Blood Alcohol Concentration over 80 mg%. He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Digby Provincial Court on November 26.

The investigation is ongoing.
