Two men charged following Dartmouth home invasion

Police have charged two men in relation to a home invasion that occurred yesterday afternoon in Dartmouth.

At approximately 2:30 p.m. on November 1 police were called to a residence on Chebogue Lane in Dartmouth for a report of two men armed with guns who had broken in to a home and threatened the residents. The men fled prior to police arrival but were arrested a short time later without incident. The weapons used by the men were recovered and seized. It is not believed to be a random incident as one of the men was known to the victim.

Twenty-one-year-old Justin Ronald Clarke of Halifax and 25- year-old Michael Thomas Carpenter of Dartmouth are scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court today to face charges of:

• using a firearm in the commission of an offence (Section 85(1) of the Criminal Code)
• careless use of a firearm (Section 86(1) of the Criminal Code)
• pointing a firearm (Section 87(1) of the Criminal Code)
• possession of weapons dangerous (Section 88(1) of the Criminal Code)
• carrying a concealed weapon (Section 90(1) of the Criminal Code)
• unauthorized possession of a firearm (Section 91(1) of the Criminal Code)
• possession of a firearm knowing it’s unauthorized (Section 92(1) of the Criminal Code)
• break and enter (Section 348.1(a) of the Criminal Code)
• forcible confinement (Section 279(2) of the Criminal Code)

Clarke also faces two counts of breaching a recognizance.
