Celebrations planned across the Halifax region for Canada’s 152nd birthday
Preparations are underway across the Halifax Regional Municipality as we get ready to celebrate Canada’s 152nd birthday, on Monday, July 1, 2019.
Residents of all ages are invited to get together with family and friends this Canada Day to participate in a multitude of free events and interactive celebrations at several locations.
Put on your finest red and white and kick off Canada Day with free pancake breakfasts in both Dartmouth and Halifax. Head over to the official Canada Day ceremonies to sing Oh Canada from the top of Citadel Hill, and then check out the Tim Hortons Family Fun Fest featuring the Skyhawks Parachute team landing in the middle of the Halifax Common. FUSE Festival’s main stage will also take place at the Emera Oval and will feature over 100 performers representing more than 20 countries. For the full list of events, visit hrmcanadaday.ca.
The main event of the evening begins at 5 p.m. at Alderney Landing with the biggest free outdoor concert of the year featuring a performance by Grammy–nominated, A-Trak. Many other talented Canadian artists will also perform, including Ellevator, KALLITECHNIS, The Sorority and Cape Breton’s own, Carmen Townsend.
The municipality’s annual fireworks show will once again take place above the Halifax Harbour at 10 p.m. and is presented by the Village Shops at Dartmouth Crossing.
Halifax Transit is offering free Alderney ferry service all day on Canada Day, as follows:
Alderney Ferry: 7:30 a.m. to 1 a.m.
Beginning at 10 a.m.: 15 minute service will take place until 1 a.m.
There will be no Woodside ferry service on Canada Day, July 1.
Ferry passengers are encouraged to bring a food or monetary donation in lieu of fare payment to support FEED NOVA SCOTIA.
