After a two-month long investigation, New Glasgow Regional Police has laid four charges against a 47-year-old for Identity Fraud and Defamatory Libel.
New Glasgow Regional Police received a complaint in January, that another person’s identity was used to post an ad on Kijiji looking to purchase New Glasgow Regional Police decals and police package items, for a for a 2018 Ford Explorer.
New Glasgow Regional Police also received a second complaint that another person’s, identity was used in making defamatory comments using Google Review.
The two victims and the suspect were known to each other.
“New Glasgow Regional Police Major Crime Unit searched the residence in Linacy, Pictou County at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday February 24, 2021, where the suspect was arrested, and electronic items seized,” said Constable Ken Macdonald.
New Glasgow Regional Police Major Crime Unit was assisted by The Royal Canadian Mounted Police Digital Forensic Services, Pictou County District RCMP and the Pictou County Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit.
The 47-year-old-male from Pictou County has been charged with:
- Two Counts of Identity Fraud
- Two Counts of Defamatory Libel
The suspect was later released under strict conditions and will appear in Provincial Court in Pictou on May 31, 2021
