Police have laid 46 charges against a man in relation to five robberies that occurred in Halifax in January and February.
Yesterday, Central Division patrol members along with Investigators with the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division arrested Kenneth Curry Sykes, 51, in Halifax without incident in relation to the following incidents:
- January 24: A man entered the Smoke Shop at 2561 Windsor Street, said he had a firearm and threatened staff before fleeing with a quantity of cash and cigarettes.
- January 28: A man entered the Smoke Shop at 1075 Barrington Street, said he had a firearm and threatened staff before fleeing with a quantity of cash.
- January 31: A man entered Boyd’s Pharmacy at 2525 Agricola Street, said he had a firearm and threatened staff before fleeing empty-handed.
- February 8: A man entered Lawtons Drugs at 5911 Spring Garden Road and threatened staff with a firearm before fleeing with a quantity of cash.
- February 15: A man entered the Royal Bank branch at 5855 Spring Garden Road and threatened staff with a firearm before fleeing with a quantity of cash.
- February 19: A man damaged a vehicle parked in the area of Uniacke Street.
He is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court today to face the following charges:
- Robbery with a firearm (x5)
- Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose (x5)
- Careless use of a firearm (x5)
- Carrying a concealed firearm (x5)
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm (x5)
- Possession of a firearm knowing it is unauthorized (x5)
- Possession contrary to firearm prohibition (x10)
- Disguise with intent (x5)
- Mischief
