The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of the following updates and impacts to municipal services as a result of the ongoing fires.
Evacuation area update
Yesterday the municipality announced that the evacuation order has been lifted in the following two areas: the Glen Arbour subdivision (Phase 1A) and the area east of Stillwater Lake and south of Hammonds Plains Road (Phase 1B).
Residents returning to homes that have not been directly impacted by fire damage can access provincial information on health and safety considerations.
The Canadian Red Cross Guide to Wildfire Recovery is another valuable resource for those preparing to return to their communities after an evacuation.
The latest information is available on halifax.ca/fire. View the most recent map of the fire evacuation areas and state of local emergency zone that outlines the area of significant impact.
Access to information for residents in the area of significant impact
The Canada Games Centre is returning to regular programming and hours today, Monday, June 5, and is no longer required as a comfort or evacuation centre.
Over the past several days, many residents in the area of significant impact have spoken with municipal staff at the Canada Games Centre about the status of their property. They also had the opportunity to view photos of their affected properties.
As of end of day yesterday, Sunday, June 4, staff will no longer be on-site to discuss the status of residents’ properties. However, as the municipality’s phased approach to lifting evacuation orders continues, and more residents return to their communities, the municipality will reassess if there is a need for this support in the coming days.
Major insurance companies and their representatives will continue to be available to speak with affected residents today, Monday, June 5, at the Canada Games Centre from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Municipal parks and trails, except those in areas where evacuation orders remain in place, will re-open today, Monday, June 5. Staff will be visiting parks as quickly as possible throughout the day to remove barricades and signage.
In accordance with By-Law P-600, Respecting Municipal Parks, no campfires or open fires are permitted in municipal parks.
Halifax Transit
Route 330 will return to regular service today, Monday, June 5.
Route 433 remains on detour, starting and ending at West Bedford Park and Ride (120 Innovation Drive). There will be no service on Hammonds Plains Road, from Gary Martin Drive to Tantallon Park and Ride.
