RCMP release:
West Hants District RCMP is investigating a fatal collision that occurred on Hwy. 14 in Windsor Forks.
On August 24, 2023, at approximately 10:50 p.m., West Hants District RCMP, fire and EHS, responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Hwy. 14 in Windsor Forks. RCMP officers learned that a white Chevrolet Monte Carlo and a white Ford F-150 had been travelling in opposite directions on Hwy. 14 when they collided.
Two passengers in the Monte Carlo, a 20-year-old Three Mile Plains woman and a 20-year-old Newport Station man, were both pronounced deceased at the scene.
A third passenger in the Monte Carlo, a 22-year-old Three Mile Plains man, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital by ambulance.
The driver of the F-150, a 53-year-old New Russell man, and the passenger, a 49-year-old New Russell woman, both suffered minor injuries and were transported to hospital by ambulance.
RCMP officers observed that the driver of the Monte Carlo, a 21-year-old Windsor man, was displaying signs of impairment. The man was arrested for Impaired Operation Causing Death and was transported to hospital by ambulance as he had suffered serious injuries. The man provided samples of blood at the hospital, that will be analyzed to determine the concentration of alcohol, if any, in his blood. The man was later released without charge pending the outcome of the blood alcohol analysis.
A collision reconstructionist attended the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
Hwy. 14 was closed for several hours but has since reopened.
