The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of the following municipal program and service level adjustments for the upcoming Labour Day long weekend, including the holiday on Monday, September 4.
Solid Waste Collection and Facility Hours
There will be no garbage, organics or recyclables collection services on Labour Day, Monday, September 4.
Curbside collection normally scheduled for Monday, September 4, will instead occur on Saturday, September 2. To ensure collection, residents are asked to place materials curbside prior to 7 a.m. on collection day, ensuring they are contained and secured to prevent access for wildlife.
The Otter Lake Waste Management Facility and Materials Recovery Facility will be closed on Monday, September 4 but will be open on Saturday, September 2 for regular business hours.
The Household Special Waste Depot will be closed on Saturday, September 2 but will be open on September 9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
A Mobile Household Special Waste Depot will be held on Saturday, September 9 at Musquodoboit Rural High School (11980 NS-224, Middle Musquodoboit).

Halifax Transit Bus and Ferry Services
Halifax Transit buses will be operating on holiday service on Monday, September 4.
The Alderney Ferry service will run at half-hour frequency on Monday, September 4. The first crossing will depart the Alderney terminal at 7:30 a.m., and the final crossing will depart the Halifax terminal at 11:45 p.m. There will be no Woodside ferry service on Monday, September 4.

Recreation Facilities, Programs and Services
Many municipally operated facilities will be closed on Monday, September 4. The Emera Oval will be open (weather dependent). Please call your local Recreation Centre for further information.
Lifeguard supervision and water quality testing will conclude for the season on Thursday, August 31. The following beaches will be open on Saturday, September 2, Sunday, September 3 and Monday, September 4: Chocolate Lake Beach, Kearney Lake Beach and Penhorn Lake Beach.
Customer Contact Centres
The 311 Contact Centre will be closed Monday, September 4 for full service.
Urgent calls can still be reported during the holiday. Regular operating hours will resume on Tuesday, September 5. Residents can reach 311 by phone, or by emailing contactus@311.halifax.ca
In-person Customer Service Centres will be closed on Monday, September 4. Customer Service Centres will reopen with regular hours on Tuesday, September 7.

Parking
On-street paid parking will be free on Monday, September 4. Motorists are reminded to abide by other posted signage, including no stopping, accessible parking spaces and no parking zones.
Fire Safety
Residents are reminded that, in accordance with By-law N-200, Respecting Noise, that fireworks are not permitted on Labour Day. For more information on firework safety, visit our website.
