RCMP release:
Halifax District RCMP has charged a man in relation to incidents that occurred in Hubbards, Tantallon and Port Hawkesbury.
On October 16, at approximately 6 a.m., Inverness County District RCMP received a report of mischief at a business on Reeves St. in Port Hawkesbury. RCMP officers learned that a man, who was sitting in his vehicle, was confronted by another man who slashed his pickup truck tires before fleeing the scene.
Later that day, Halifax District RCMP received multiple complaints, in the Hubbards area, where a man had threatened several individuals over the phone. The suspect, who is known to the victims, was later identified, through tips received from the public, as being involved in the Port Hawkesbury incident.
On October 17, investigators were continuing the investigations when additional incidents of uttering threats and mischief were reported. RCMP officers learned that video surveillance, at a marina on Nautical Way in Tantallon, had captured footage of the suspect where a boat lift, a ridgid hull inflatable vessel of the St. Margarets Bay Marine Search and Rescue Society and two boat trailers were vandalised. Furthermore, threats continued to be uttered by phone and the tires of a car, on Shore Club Rd. in Hubbards, had been slashed. The total costs of the damage is estimated to be more than $35,000.
Later that day, at approximately 1:35 p.m., the 57-year-old Marriotts Cove man turned himself in to police at the Tantallon RCMP detachment where he was safely arrested.
Andrew Joseph Cullen, 57, has been charged with:
- Uttering Threat (six counts);
- Mischief (five counts);
- Criminal Harassment;
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose.
Cullen appeared in Halifax Provincial Court yesterday and was remanded into custody. He will return to court today.
