Heritage Day Changes to Municipal Services Including Waste, Transit, and Facilities

The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of the following municipal program and service level adjustments for the upcoming Heritage Day long weekend, including the holiday on Monday, February 19.

Solid Waste Collection and Facility Hours

There will be no garbage, organics or recyclables collection services on Monday, February 19.

Curbside collection normally scheduled for Monday, February 19, will instead occur on Saturday, February 17. To ensure collection, residents are asked to place materials curbside prior to 7 a.m. on collection day, ensuring they are contained and secured to prevent access from wildlife.

The Otter Lake Waste Management Facility and Materials Recovery Facility will be closed on Monday, February 19, but will be open on Saturday, February 17 for regular business hours.

The Household Special Waste Depot will be closed on Saturday, February 17, but will be open on Saturday, February 24, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Halifax Transit Bus and Ferry Services

Halifax Transit buses will be operating on holiday service on Monday, February 19.

Alderney Ferry service will run on a 30-minute schedule on Monday, February 19. The first trip will depart Alderney Ferry Terminal at 7:30 a.m., and the final trip will depart Halifax Ferry Terminal at 11:45 p.m. There will be no Woodside Ferry service on Monday, February 19.

Recreation Facilities, Programs and Services

Many municipally operated facilities will be closed on Monday, February 19. The Emera Oval will be open (weather dependent). Please call your local Recreation Centre for further information.

Customer Contact Centres

The 311 Contact Centre will be closed Monday, February 19 for full service.

Urgent calls can still be reported during the holiday. Regular operating hours will resume on Tuesday, February 20. Residents can reach 311 by phone, or by emailing contactus@311.halifax.ca

In-person Customer Service Centres will be closed on Monday, February 19. Customer Service Centres will reopen with regular hours on Tuesday, February 20.

Parking

On-street paid parking will be free on Monday, February 19. Motorists are reminded to abide by other posted signage, including no stopping, accessible parking spaces and no parking zones.
