Release:
The A. Murray MacKay Bridge will be closed for planned maintenance and inspection projects this weekend.
The closure will take place Friday, June 14 at 7 p.m. The bridge will reopen to traffic Monday, June 17 at 5:30 a.m.
This closure will cause traffic delays, so please plan travel accordingly. Allow extra time to reach your destination. Expect higher than normal volumes on the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge this weekend.
On Saturday last weekend (June 8), there were 47,000 crossings of the Macdonald Bridge. An average weekend in May is 33,000 crossings. The heaviest traffic day in the month prior to the closure was 43,800.
Surrounding neighbourhoods will also likely see higher than usual traffic congestion. Choose alternate routes and avoid peak travel hours. If possible, use buses or ferries.
The Macdonald Bridge bike lane and pedestrian walkway will be available for use as usual. You can check traffic updates on our free MACPASS app or by visiting our website, halifaxharbourbridges.ca.
On the Dartmouth side, the closure begins at the Victoria Road overpass to accommodate paving and electrical work at the toll plaza. There will be no access to the Princess Margaret Boulevard off ramp
This is the second of four planned weekend closures to allow for work on the MacKay that cannot be done while the bridge is open to traffic.
The other upcoming MacKay are:
· Friday, June 21 at 7 p.m. to Monday, June 24 at 5:30 a.m.
· Friday July 5 at 7 p.m. to Monday, July 8 at 5:30 a.m.
