PC party volunteer arrested for fraud and theft

New Glasgow Regional Police has charged a woman with fraud related offences that occurred from 2016 to 2024.

On October 7, New Glasgow Regional Police responded to the report of fraud involving a volunteer with the Pictou East Progressive Conservative Association in Pictou County. During the investigation, New Glasgow Regional Police investigators have learned that from 2016 to 2024 a lone volunteer who was the treasurer at the time was withdrawing funds from the association account.

On October 11, New Glasgow Regional Police investigators, arrested the 44-year-old Pictou County woman at her residence on Greenwood Street in Pictou County, Nova Scotia.

Investigators also on the same day conducted a search warrant at the residence. During the search, investigators seized mobile electronic devices, bank records and cash.

Tara Amanda Cohoon of Pictou County has been charged with:

  • Forgery.
  • Uttering a Forged Document.
  • Theft Over $5,000.
  • Fraud Over $5,000.

The 44-year-old female has been released and will be appearing in Provincial Court in Pictou on December 2, 2024.

The investigation remains ongoing by the New Glasgow Regional Police Major Crime Unit.
