Postal workers threaten strike action

Via releases:

A postal strike could be on the horizon as the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) and Canada Post continue intense negotiations. Although CUPW is now in a legal position to strike as of November 3, the union has opted not to issue a 72-hour strike notice yet, keeping the bargaining process open. Both sides have agreed to certain conditions to prevent an immediate disruption, with Canada Post committing to refrain from issuing a lockout notice or making any changes to current working conditions during ongoing talks.

Negotiations are focused on key demands from CUPW, including improvements to Short-term Disability Plans, Personal Days, and Medical/Sick Days. These topics are part of the union’s broader push for better support and benefits for postal workers. CUPW President Jan Simpson has urged union members to stay informed, stressing the importance of solidarity as the bargaining process unfolds. While a strike is not yet certain, CUPW has warned that if negotiations reach an impasse, action could still be taken with minimal notice.
