False stabbing report leads to assault charge

RCMP release:

Colchester County District RCMP has charged a man with aggravated assault following an altercation between two men in North River.

On December 6 at approximately 1:30 a.m., Colchester County District RCMP received a report that a stabbing had occurred sometime during the evening of December 5.

The investigation, supported by RCMP Police Dog Services, Colchester RCMP General Investigation Section and Street Crime Enforcement Unit, and Truro Police Service, indicates two men were involved in an altercation outside a store on Hwy. 311 in North River. During the altercation, one of the men severely assaulted the other.

The victim was not immediately located; however, investigators learned the victim, a 44-year-old Truro man, suffered serious injuries and was transported to hospital by a family member. Investigators determined that no weapon was involved in the incident and the victim was not stabbed.

At approximately 4:40 a.m. on December 6 Colchester County District RCMP located and safely arrested Dennis Jordan Service, 33, of Bible Hill in relation to the incident.

Service has been charged with Aggravated Assault. He was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in Truro Provincial Court on January 8.
