A series of road closures, lane reductions, and utility disruptions are planned across the Halifax region next week, with impacts ranging from overnight street closures to temporary water loss in Bedford.

Crystal Drive closure – July 14 and 15

Crystal Drive, between Leaman Drive and Primrose Street, will be closed for 48 hours beginning Monday, July 14. The full closure is to allow underground utility connections for nearby development and will remain in effect overnight.

A marked detour will be in place, and the north-side sidewalk will be closed. Pedestrians are advised to use nearby crosswalks.

Halifax Transit Route 53 will be detoured, and stops at Leaman Drive before and after Ambercrest Place (IDs 2251 and 7126) will be closed. Full details are available on the Halifax service disruptions page.

Orchard Street, Bedford – July 17

Halifax Water will install a new water valve near 53 Orchard Street in Bedford on Thursday, July 17, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Residents nearby may temporarily lose water service or experience low pressure. Discoloured water is also possible, and residents are advised to run their cold water tap until it clears.

Stop-and-go traffic will be in place during the work, but sidewalks will remain open.

Highway 2 delays – July 14

Road repairs will take place Monday, July 14, between Fall River Road and civic address 2946 on Highway 2. Work runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with stop-and-go traffic expected. Drivers are encouraged to plan alternate routes where possible.

Bayers Road sewer lining – July 13 to 14

Wastewater system maintenance using trenchless lining will close part of Bayers Road from noon Sunday, July 13, until 6 a.m. Monday, July 14.

The section between Connolly Street and Connaught Avenue will be limited to local traffic, with a detour via Roslyn Road. One inbound lane near the Connolly intersection will also be reduced.

Halifax Transit Routes 1 and 8 will be detoured, and some stops temporarily closed. Sidewalks in the area will stay open.

This work uses a less disruptive cure-in-place-pipe (CIPP) method that reinforces existing underground pipes without full excavation.

Motorists are reminded to obey traffic control personnel and signage, and that speed fines double in construction zones.
