Two drivers ticketed for racing at 181 km/h

RCMP release:

RCMP Northeast Traffic Services stop two racing vehicles on Hwy. 104 in Antigonish.

On July 30, 2025, at approximately 9:30 p.m., RCMP Northeast Traffic Services, with the assistance of Antigonish County District RCMP, stopped a Toyota Corolla and a Kia Forte as they raced, reaching speeds of 181 km/h on Hwy 104 outside of Antigonish. 

The traffic stops were the result of officers conducting speed enforcement patrols on Hwy. 104 between Beaver Mountain and Antigonish. 

Both drivers from Heatherton, a 46-year-old woman and a 20-year-old woman, were issued tickets under 163(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act, resulting in a fine of $2422.20, their drivers’ licenses seized for seven days and their vehicles impounded for seven days.

Speed is one of the major causes of serious injury and fatal collisions on our roads.  Road safety is a priority for the RCMP and drivers are reminded to make it their priority as well.  If you see someone driving unsafely on our roads, please report it by calling the RCMP at 1-800-803-RCMP (7267).  If you believe it is an emergency, call 911.
