Halifax Regional Police is investigating a head-on collision on Highway 118 at Dartmouth Crossing which occurred at approximately 7:40 a.m.
It is believed that the male driver of a Pontiac Sunfire heading outbound lost control of his vehicle, crossed the median, glanced off an SUV heading inbound and then struck an inbound car head-on. The driver of the vehicle which crossed the median had to be removed from his vehicle using the jaws of life and was transported to the QEII Hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. A female passenger in the struck car was transported to the Dartmouth General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The male driver of the struck car and the male driver of the SUV were not injured.
Officers in the Accident Investigation Unit and Forensic Identification Section are currently on-scene investigating the collision, and it is anticipated they will be there for at least another hour. The cause of the collision has yet to be determined. Anyone who witnessed the incident who has yet to speak to police is asked to call 490-5016.
A portion of Highway 118 inbound between Dartmouth Crossing and Highway 111 remains closed to traffic at this time. Officers are directing traffic around the scene of the collision.
