Detour Digest: Bedford Highway, Hollis Street, and Highway 103 see weekend work ahead

Expect a busy stretch of roadwork around HRM and beyond starting Friday, October 10. Crews from HRM, Halifax Water, and Public Works are rolling out repairs, painting, and maintenance projects across the city and province.

HRM roadwork

Friday, Oct. 10

  • Bedford Highway (Tremont Dr. to Kearney Lake Rd.) – Lane drops 7 a.m.–4 p.m. for road repairs. Expect delays or use alternate routes.
  • Highway 2 (Fall River Rd. to Coach Ave.) – Stop-and-go traffic 9:30 a.m.–noon for repair work.
  • First Lake Drive (Crimson Dr. to Cobequid Rd.) – Stop-and-go 12:30–2 p.m. for road repairs.
  • Larry Uteck Blvd. (Broad St. to Broad St.) – Stop-and-go 12–1 p.m. for roadwork.
  • Hollis Street (George to Prince) – Lane closure midnight–7 a.m. for stormwater system repairs. Sidewalks closed in the work zone.
  • Sackville Street (Granville to Lower Water) – Lane closure 2–7 a.m. for manhole maintenance.
  • Cole Harbour Road (Forest Hills Pkwy to Bissett Rd.) – Lane reductions 9–11 a.m. while two-way traffic is maintained.

Sunday, Oct. 12 – Tuesday, Oct. 14

  • Brunswick Street (Cogswell to Spring Garden) – Full closure 7 p.m. Oct. 12 to 5 a.m. Oct. 14 for paving. Use detours.

Tuesday, Oct. 14 – Monday, Oct. 27

  • Brunswick Street (Cogswell to Spring Garden) – Rolling overnight closures (7 p.m.–7 a.m.) for line painting and markings. Pedestrian detours marked.

Provincial roadwork

Kings County

  • G 2nd Rd. & Aylesford Rd. (near Civic 230) – Intersection closed due to wildfire.

Halifax County

  • Highway 103, Exit 3 Overpass (Upper Tantallon area) – Stop-and-go traffic 9 a.m.–4 p.m. for line painting.
  • Active Transportation Trail (Aerotech Connector) – Trail remains closed for ongoing work; no traffic delays expected on the main road.

Tip: Slow down near crews — fines double in work zones.
