RCMP release:

RCMP Northeast Traffic Services – Cape Breton has charged a man with impaired driver after he fled from an attempted traffic stop.

On October 16 at approximately 9:57 p.m., a police officer with RCMP Northeast Traffic Services – Cape Breton clocked an eastbound Honda Civic on Hwy. 4 in Irish Cove travelling at approximately 185 km/hr in the posted 80km/hr zone. The vehicle did not stop when the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The officer did not pursue the vehicle as to not further endanger the public. 

Approximately fifteen minutes later, the officer learned that a Honda Civic had flipped off the highway east of Big Pond and the male driver had run to a nearby residence. Officers located the man a short time later and conducted a roadside breath test resulting in a Fail.

The 20-year-old man from Barra Head was arrested and transported to the North Sydney RCMP office where he provided breath samples of one and half times the legal limit. He has been charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Operation of a Motor Vehicle over 80mg% under the Criminal Code and with Stunting under the Motor Vehicle Act. He was released on an Appearance Notice and has a first court appearance in December at Sydney, NS.
