Giant New Year’s Resolutions Cover Downtown Halifax Streets

Agency Art Lofts wants to help people reach their big goals for 2026

We’re all guilty of making big ambitious New Year’s resolutions, only to quietly quit them by February. But this year, Agency Art Lofts, Halifax’s first hard loft apartments, wants to help people stick with their resolutions.

Through an installation called “New Year, New Apartment” they’ve covered the city in giant New Year’s resolutions, jotted down on massive colourful sticky notes. Each one highlighting their extremely unique suite of creative amenities that could set anyone up for success and help them reach their big goals. From a fully-equipped Podcast Studio to a private Sauna Room, and even a secret Speakeasy to host your friends, the list goes on.

These giant 5’x5’ sticky notes went up on New Year’s Eve, and can be found around Halifax, mainly in the downtown area. One reads “More movie marathons” and spotlights the private Screening Room. Another says “Explore new heights,” as a playful nod to the loft’s 12-foot ceilings.

So whether you’re out getting some coffee after a late New Year’s Eve or starting your goals early with a morning jog, the timing of this creative installation could be the nudge people need as they embrace a fresh start.

A recent study suggests nearly half of Canadians make New Year’s resolutions each year, with 71% focused on health or fitness and 27% centred around hobbies. Some attribute it to the “fresh start effect,” a phenomenon where big calendar events, like the beginning of a new year, naturally nudge us toward new habits and bolder ambitions.

For over 50 years, at the corner of Hollis and Sackville, there lived a 14 floor office building. But rather than tearing down one of Halifax’s first high-rise buildings, it’s been fully restored and converted into 173 loft apartments. A process that not only resulted in creative spaces with character, it also reduced its carbon footprint by 8,030 tonnes, the equivalent of planting 132,770 new trees. Agency Art Lofts has one of the most unique lists of amenities for their tenants and embraces creativity and artful living in downtown Halifax.
