Macdonald Bridge Weekend Closure January 9–12 for Final Bearing Replacement Work

HHB release:

Halifax Harbour Bridges advises the public that the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge will be closed to all vehicle traffic from 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 9, until 5:30 a.m. on Monday, January 12, to allow for critical bearing replacement work.

This closure marks the final phase of a multi-year bearing replacement program on the Macdonald Bridge. Completing this work represents an important milestone in maintaining the long-term safety and reliability of the bridge.

The pedestrian walkway and bicycle lane will be open during the weekend; however, there will be intermittent delays. Cyclists and pedestrians are required to follow the direction of on-site Traffic Control.

All travelers should expect delays, plan their trips accordingly, and exercise patience during this period. Motorists are encouraged to:

Use alternate routes, including the A. Murray MacKay Bridge, which will remain open

Consider public transportation when possible

Allow extra travel time, particularly if attending large events downtown

Additional traffic volumes are expected this weekend due to major events at the Scotiabank Centre:

The Mooseheads hockey game on Saturday evening. (Game start 7 p.m.)

The Professional Women’s Hockey League game, Ottawa vs. Boston, on Sunday afternoon (Game start 1 p.m.)

Halifax Harbour Bridges thanks the public for their continued cooperation throughout this project and appreciates the patience shown as this essential maintenance work is completed.
