SiRT completes review of incident involving man jumping from moving vehicle

SiRT release:

The Director of the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) found no reasonable grounds to believe that the actions of a member of the New Minas RCMP contributed to the injuries of an adult male.

On August 25, 2025, EHS responded to a 911 call related to an adult male who had jumped out of a moving vehicle. EHS determined that the male was suffering from serious head injuries that required urgent medical attention at the hospital. The male refused medical care, and as a result, police were contacted to help as it was assessed he may need to be taken to hospital under the Involuntary Psychiatric Treatment Act. Two members of the New Minas RCMP responded and tried to reason with the male to go to the hospital voluntarily, but he refused. He reached for a bag in the vehicle, stepped outside and made a statement that challenged officers to fight. Officers attempted to handcuff the male, took him to the ground, and a struggle ensued. The male was handcuffed and transported to a local hospital before being airlifted to a hospital in Halifax. He was diagnosed with a fractured skull, a temporal bone fracture, and other injuries, which appear to be the result of the jump from the moving vehicle.
