RCMP release:
On January 29, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., the RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment Traffic Unit and RCMP Metro Traffic Services conducted a focused traffic enforcement initiative on Hwy. 107 targeting aggressive driving. In total, 103 summary offence tickets were issued, 72 of those for speeding.
The highest speed of the day came in at 111 km/hr in a 60 km/hr zone. This driver was issued a fine of $2422.50 and, a 7-day licence suspension. Their vehicle was seized immediately and six points were added to their driver’s record.
Officers also issued tickets for documentation and licensing issues, unregistered vehicles, expired inspections, and for a small number of other infractions such as not wearing a seatbelt, failing to obey road signage and misleading police.
“Safe roads are a shared responsibility. When drivers slow down, stay alert, and make responsible choices, they support the same mission officers uphold: preventing collisions and saving lives,” says Cpl. Bobby Bambury, RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment Traffic Unit.
The RCMP would like to extend sincere appreciation to all community members who continue to report dangerous drivers. Your support plays a vital role in making our roads safer for everyone.
