Nova Scotia Power announced today that President and CEO Peter Gregg will be stepping down from the role, effective March 1, 2026. He will be replaced by Vivek Sood, who takes over as the utility’s new President and CEO.
According to Investing.com, Gregg isn’t leaving parent company Emera entirely. He’s moving into a newly created role as Executive Vice President of Strategy and Policy at Emera Inc., where he’ll oversee corporate strategy, government relations, and sustainability initiatives.
Sood has been serving on Nova Scotia Power’s board of directors since June 2024 and brings more than 20 years of senior leadership experience from his time with Sobeys and Empire Group of Companies.
Investing.com reports that NS Power Board Chair Scott Balfour expressed confidence in the transition, citing Sood’s business experience and Nova Scotia roots as key factors in the appointment.
Sood said he is proud to join Nova Scotia Power and build on the work already happening across the company.
During Gregg’s tenure, the utility navigated several major challenges including the ongoing transition away from coal, contentious rate hearings with the provincial government, and a cyberattack in April 2025. He also oversaw infrastructure projects including the Wasoqonatl Intertie Project, developed in partnership with Mi’kmaw communities and the Canadian Infrastructure Bank.
Nova Scotia Power provides electricity to approximately 550,000 customers across the province and employs more than 2,200 people.
