Thanks to a multi-year donation from the Robbie’s Fund Foundation, the Nova Scotia SPCA will be able to shorten the previously announced hiatus of its Trap, Neuter, Return program. 

“This wonderful donation from Robbie’s Fund Foundation will cover the cost of a new mobile surgery unit and five years of operational funding,” says Heather Woodin, Chief, Animal Operations. “We are grateful for this support, which will allow us to bring the program back in 2026, in a limited capacity, and then more fully in the next few years.” 

While the operational costs for medical supplies, a new mobile surgery vehicle, and veterinary medical staff will be covered by the Robbie’s Fund Foundation, the program will still require volunteer trappers and community volunteers to bring the program back to communities across the province, as well as the recruitment of registered veterinary technicians and veterinarians. 

In 2026, the Nova Scotia SPCA will work with rescue and community groups to fill six TNR sessions. This program will continue to be offered free of charge to these organizations.  

The Trap, Neuter, Return program addresses the challenge of unowned outdoor cats. The cats are humanely trapped, vetted to be spayed or neutered, ear-tipped for identification, and returned to their outdoor territory.  

By working together with local rescue groups across the province, we can make the most improvement in the welfare of the feral cat population through spay/neuter.
